Green Chemistry: Principles, Applications and Future Prospects

Abstract:
Green chemistry has emerged as one of the most important branches of modern chemical science due to increasing environmental concerns, depletion of natural resources, and the growing demand for sustainable industrial processes. Traditional chemical manufacturing often involves hazardous substances, toxic solvents, excessive energy consumption, and the generation of large quantities of waste, leading to significant environmental and human health risks. Green chemistry provides an innovative approach by designing chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances while maintaining efficiency and economic feasibility. It emphasizes pollution prevention at the source rather than treatment after waste generation. The principles of green chemistry encourage the use of renewable raw materials, environmentally benign solvents, catalytic reactions, energy efficient processes, and biodegradable products. These approaches have found widespread applications in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, polymer industries, food processing, nanotechnology, and environmental protection. Recent developments in nanotechnology, biocatalysis, artificial intelligence, and sustainable manufacturing have further accelerated the implementation of green chemistry worldwide. This review summarizes the fundamental principles, industrial applications, recent advances, challenges, and future prospects of green chemistry. The findings indicate that green chemistry plays a crucial role in achieving sustainable development by minimizing environmental pollution, improving industrial efficiency, reducing production costs, and protecting human health. Future research should focus on developing innovative catalytic systems, renewable feedstocks, and environmentally friendly technologies for global sustainability.
