Abstract:
Background: Sustainable peacebuilding in fragile contexts relies on interconnected governance processes. However, empirical evidence on how these factors jointly and differentially shape conflict resolution outcomes in local governance settings remains limited. This study investigates the extent to which transformational leadership, institutional capacity, and community participation predict sustainable peacebuilding. Methods: Utilizing a quantitative cross-sectional design, this study applied Pearson correlation and multiple regression modeling to analyze the relationships and predictive power of the three governance determinants. All analyses were evaluated at a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Correlation analysis revealed strong, statistically significant positive associations between all predictors and outcomes. Transformational leadership strongly correlated with sustainable peacebuilding (r = 0.73) and conflict resolution (r = 0.77). Institutional capacity yielded similar robust correlations (r = 0.76 and r = 0.74, respectively), alongside community participation (r = 0.68 and r = 0.72). Multiple regression analysis demonstrated substantial explanatory power, with the model accounting for 78.4% of the variance in sustainable peacebuilding (R2 = 0.784; Adjusted R2 = 0.728). Notably, community participation emerged as the most influential predictor (β = 0.392), followed by transformational leadership (β = 0.280) and institutional capacity (β = 0.210 β). No multicollinearity was detected. Conclusions: Sustainable peacebuilding is a function of mutually reinforcing governance mechanisms. While transformational leadership builds trust and institutional capacity ensures structural coordination, community participation acts as the primary driver of local ownership and legitimacy. Achieving durable peace in fragile settings requires integrated policies that simultaneously strengthen leadership, institutional resilience, and inclusive grass-roots engagement.
