Abstract:
Healthcare supply chains represent some of the most complex and mission-critical systems in the global economy, where timely availability of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and consumables directly impacts patient safety and quality of care. Effective supplier performance monitoring is therefore a central requirement for healthcare organizations seeking to ensure reliability, efficiency, and resilience. Traditionally, supplier evaluation within healthcare supply chains has relied on manual reporting, fragmented data sources, and retrospective performance audits, which often limit visibility and responsiveness. The emergence of business intelligence (BI) tools, particularly Microsoft Power BI, offers new opportunities for real-time, data-driven monitoring of supplier performance. Power BI dashboards provide interactive visualization, data integration, and predictive analytics capabilities that can transform healthcare supply chain management by enabling decision-makers to track key performance indicators (KPIs), detect inefficiencies, and support evidence-based procurement strategies. This paper explores the application of Power BI dashboards for monitoring supplier performance in healthcare supply chains, drawing exclusively on existing literature published up to 2019. The introduction contextualizes the critical role of supplier performance in healthcare, the challenges of traditional monitoring systems, and the growing significance of BI technologies in supply chain analytics. The literature review synthesizes scholarly contributions on healthcare supply chain complexities, supplier evaluation frameworks, the role of digital dashboards, and the adoption of Power BI as a transformative monitoring tool. By consolidating existing knowledge, the study highlights both the opportunities and limitations of Power BI in enhancing transparency, resilience, and sustainability in healthcare supply chains. While empirical implementations remain limited in scope, the literature suggests that BI-enabled monitoring can significantly improve procurement outcomes, risk management, and ultimately patient care.
